Building & Safety Division

THE BUILDING & SAFETY DIVISION IS NOW ACCEPTING APPOINTMENTS FOR IN-PERSON COUNTER SERVICES

Appointments will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and every other Friday.

Appointments can be made using our online appointment system at the following link:  https://booking.appointy.com/appointmentsredondo

Please note, walk-in services are currently not available.  Only persons with an appointment will be assisted at the counter.

The City will continue to follow safety protocols.  When arriving for an appointment, please wait outside until your name is called.

A face covering is required to enter any City offices and throughout your visit to City Hall.

But why not save the trip?

The office will still continue to provide online assistance for questions, permit application submittal, and plan reviews, for anyone that would prefer that option.  Details are outlined below.

Online and Digital Assistance:

For Building & Safety inquiries, send an email to BuildingRedondo@redondo.org

To Order a Building Report (Sale of a Residential Property):

Please download the application from the "Forms, Applications, Reports & Handouts" page on the left window pane. Once filled out, pay for your report here: https://css.redondo.org/css/citizens/

Email BuildingRedondo@redondo.org with receipt of payment and your filled out application. A permit technician will then confirm that the Building Department has received your application and you will receive your report within 3-4 business days.

Plan Check Application Process for Residential New Construction, Additions, and/or Commercial Tenant Improvement.

For a new plan check application, the applicant (or applicant’s representative) should submit an email with the details confirming the information that will be submitted, how those documents address the required list of submittal items, and a photo image of the plans stamped by the Planning Division that state “Reviewed for Submittal”. The drawings to be submitted will need to have that Planning Division stamp in order to be accepted. The applicant should be thorough in the information being provided to help streamline the submittal process.

For any questions or to submit the email, please contact the Building Division at: BuildingRedondo@redondo.org

The list of plan check submittal items can be found at this website:

https://www.redondo.org/depts/community_development/eng_build/building_services/plan_submittal_n_plan_review.asp

The Building Division staff will review the electronic information to determine if the project is ready to submit. If there is additional information needed in order to confirm that the project is ready for submittal, the applicant will receive an email explaining the materials needed.

Once plans are deemed ready for submittal by the Building Division, staff will inform the applicant of the fees (City will issue an invoice in order to coordinate online payment) and will schedule a Bin Drop Off time for submitting the plans. Bin Pick Up and Drop Off instructions are noted at the bottom of this page

Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Permits

For permits, the Building Division will process as much as possible via email. To submit a permit application, the applicant should fill out the required form and submit via email.

For any questions or to submit the email, please contact the Building Division at: BuildingRedondo@redondo.org

The Building Division staff will notify the applicant if there are any changes or additional information needed. Once a building permit is ready for issue, the Building Division will inform the applicant of the fees (City will issue an invoice in order to coordinate online payment) and will schedule a time for Bin Drop Off of any required hard copies of documents (see drop off instructions at bottom of page). The permit can then be issued. If there are job cards and plans that need to be distributed to the applicant, staff will coordinate the Bin Pick Up (see instructions at bottom of page). If the permit is more basic, staff will email a copy of the approved permit to the applicant to authorize the work to begin, and the Building Division will keep the hard copy on file for the applicant to pick up at a later date when the City Hall offices re-open.

All Building and Safety Division forms, including building, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing permit applications, are available at the following link:

https://www.redondo.org/depts/community_development/eng_build/forms.asp

Building Inspections

For those inspections that can be done via video conferencing, this is the preferred option. Contractors will need to have the person coordinating the inspection on their mobile device in advance of the scheduled inspection call. During the streamed inspection, the contractor’s representative will walk the inspector through the site, starting with the front of the property showing the construction signage to verify the property.

For any inspections necessary for the inspector to be on site, the City will require the contractor to only have one contact person (ideally the person in charge of the project—who is not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms) in attendance with no other workers in the vicinity, and social distancing of 6’ should be maintained between the contact person at the site and the inspector. Inspectors will have hand sanitizer and follow proper hand sanitization protocol after leaving the inspected site.

To schedule an inspection, contact the automated inspection request line at 310-318-0607.
